MustyYew is an online artist, graphic designer, video editor, shitposter and frequent internet lurker from the Unlimited Kool (UK).
You might recognize me as "the funny Reddit snafu guy" or "that one guy I see in a concerning amount of YouTube comment sections"... or you
have no idea who I am and saying all this makes me look like a pretentious cunt.
As for this website, I mostly just started it as a cool little novelty project for that isn't specifically tied to one fandom or sector of the internet; think of it as a homepage of sorts for my general online presence.
MustyYew (ˈmʌsti-ju'), also known as 'Musty', 'Mustyy' or 'かび臭いイチイ' ('kabikusai-ichī'). Kinda wish I had some super cool backstory to tell, but it was just randomly generated from my brother's XBOX account when we were young (full username being 'MustyYew011937', I eventually omitted the numbers for obvious reasons). I basically just stole the name for myself and started using it as an alias, mainly because it just sounded cool and I couldn't think of anything better myself lol. Funnily enough me and my brother had this whole back-and-forth battle over who actually owns the "MustyYew" name, but he eventually gave in and let me have it for myself anyway.
A lot of people have pointed out the weird (and kinda gross if you think about it) connotations of "Musty Yew" as a name when you actually disect its meaning, but that's sorta the reason why I like it so much. Plus it's objectively simpler and more memorable than a lot of usernames out there.
Basically as long as I can remember. I'd start coming up with my own characters and ideas since I was around 6-7 years old, but only began taking my artistic potential seriously around the tail end of 2019 ("taking art seriously" doesn't necessarily mean I got good at it though, keep that in mind) - even then I'd just grab some paper and doodle stuff based around whatever 3-4 interests I had at the time (Minecraft YouTubers, BFDI, memes, look I was 13 okay).
It wouldn't be around mid 2020 when I'd actually share my art online for people to see. Quarantine in genral obviously gave me a lot more free time to expand upon my artistic technicalities, as well as my taste in media and arts overall (see the "Interests" tab below). If you want a display of what I'm best capable of then I would view any art I've made from 2023 onwards.
My artwork is carefully constructive through the contemporarily complex digital art sortware known as Microsoft Paint (circa Windows 10), with such revolutionary equipment as a singular computer and optical mouse. But seriously, that's it. I've never used a drawing tablet and I don't have some super advanced desktop setup in order to make my art, just a basic mouse paired with my nearly 10-year-old Windows PC.
A lot of it is just drawn (haha) from media I look up to or grew up with; TV shows, web series, adverts, books, games etc. I couldn't pinpoint one specific thing or person for the way I draw. I'm also self-taught for the most part, so a lot of my abilities were formed from looking at others' work and critiques.
I kinda just share my art across Discord servers I'm in, as well as the occasional DeviantArt or Newgrounds or Twitter depending on how I feel (all of which you can find through my Linktree).
Honestly I just get bored of browsing the same website every day, nothin' too deep. A lotta people have brought up the amount of platforms I seem to have across the internet in the past, so I thought I may as well address it here.
